Wyoming Republicans Censure Rep. Liz Cheney Over Impeachment Vote
The Wyoming Republican Party voted overwhelmingly Saturday to censure U.S. Rep. Liz Cheney for voting to impeach President Donald Trump for his role in the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol.Only eight of the 74-member state GOP’s central committee stood to oppose censure in a vote that didn’t proceed to a formal count. The censure document accused Cheney of voting to impeach even though the U.S. House didn’t offer Trump “formal hearing or due process.””We need to honor President Trump. Сьогодні виповнюється 25 років з дня заснування антарктичної станції «Академік Вернадський»
Сьогодні, 6 січня, виповнюється 25 років з дня заснування антарктичної дослідницької станції «Академік Вернадський».
Станція «Академік Вернадський» – єдина українська антарктична станція, розташована на мисі Марина острова Галіндез. Вона працює постійно і є метеорологічною та геофізичною обсерваторією. Була заснована в 1947 році як британська станція «Фарадей», у лютому 1996 року Велика Британія передала її Україні. Тоді ж на станції відкрили пункт поштового зв’язку, де діє спеціальний поштовий штемпель з перевідною датою «Українська антарктична станція «Академік Вернадський».
Президент України Володимир Зеленський підписав указ про відзначення 25-річчя заснування антарктичної станції «Академік Вернадський». Зокрема, у лютому 2021 року мають провести урочисті заходи за участі вчених та учасників антарктичних експедицій усіх періодів. У першому півріччі 2021 року планують провести міжнародну науково-практичну конференцію про дослідження Антарктики.
Про річницю згадали і в посольстві Великої Британії, опублікувавши фото з церемонії зміни прапору, яка відбулася 6 лютого 1996 року.
«Цей дружній жест з боку Британії дав Україні можливість продовжити свою історію в тій частині світу, адже українці були у складі перших експедицій до цього континенту», – мовиться у повідомленні на сторінці посольства у фейсбуці.

Blinken Presses China on Uighurs, Hong Kong in First Call
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken pressed Beijing on its treatment of Uighurs, Tibetans and Hong Kong in the first conversation between top officials of the two powers since President Joe Biden took office. “I made clear the U.S. will defend our national interests, stand up for our democratic values, and hold Beijing accountable for its abuses of the international system,” Blinken said on Twitter of his call with senior Chinese official Yang Jiechi. Blinken told Yang that the United States “will continue to stand up for human rights and democratic values, including in Xinjiang, Tibet and Hong Kong,” a State Department statement said of the call, which took place Friday, Washington time. Blinken also “pressed China to join the international community in condemning the military coup in Burma,” it said, using the former name of Myanmar. The top U.S. diplomat said the United States would hold Beijing “accountable for its efforts to threaten stability in the Indo-Pacific, including across the Taiwan Strait, and its undermining of the rules-based international system.” The tough tone comes after Blinken in his confirmation hearing said he would continue former president Donald Trump’s approach to China in a rare point of agreement between the two administrations. Blinken has said he agrees with a determination by the State Department under Trump that Beijing is carrying out genocide in the western region of Xinjiang, where rights groups say more than one million Uighurs and other mostly Muslim Turkic-speaking people have been rounded up in camps. Beijing has also ramped up a crackdown in Hong Kong, arresting leading activists, after imposing a new law against subversion following major protests in the financial hub to which it had guaranteed a separate system. Biden nonetheless offered a small olive branch during a speech on foreign policy on Thursday, saying that while the United states will “confront” China, “We are ready to work with Beijing when it’s in America’s interest to do so.” Blinken has previously spoken of climate change as an area of cooperation as China and the United State are the two largest emitters of greenhouse gases. Beijing has long enjoyed a privileged relationship with Myanmar, supporting the junta that gave way to democracy a decade ago with U.S. support. The military in the Southeast Asian nation this week carried out a coup, arresting civilian leader Aung San Suu Kyi, in what Chinese state media described as “a major cabinet reshuffle.” Biden, who has vowed to promote democracy worldwide after Trump’s flirtations with autocratic leaders, strongly condemned the coup and threatened sanctions if the military did not relinquish power.

US to Revoke Terrorist Designation of Yemen’s Houthis Due to Famine
The United States said Friday it intends to revoke the terrorist designation for Yemen’s Houthi movement in response to the country’s humanitarian crisis, reversing one of the most criticized last-minute decisions of the Trump administration.The reversal, confirmed by a State Department official, comes a day after President Joe Biden declared a halt to U.S. support for the Saudi Arabia-led military campaign in Yemen, widely seen as a proxy conflict between Saudi Arabia and Iran.”Our action is due entirely to the humanitarian consequences of this last-minute designation from the prior administration, which the United Nations and humanitarian organizations have since made clear would accelerate the world’s worst humanitarian crisis,” the official said.The United Nations describes Yemen as the world’s biggest humanitarian crisis, with 80% of its people in need.Former U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo blacklisted the Houthis on Jan. 19, a day before Biden took office.The Trump administration exempted aid groups, the United Nations, the Red Cross and the export of agricultural commodities, medicine and medical devices from its designation. Virginia House Votes to Abolish Death Penalty
The U.S. mid-Atlantic state of Virginia has taken another step toward abolishing the death penalty with the House voting Friday to end the practice, making it all but certain the action will become law.The House passage followed a Senate vote earlier in the week and came after Democratic Governor Ralph Northam said he would sign the measure.The bill passed in the House 47-41, mostly along party lines. All but one Democrat voted for passage while three Republicans joined the Democrats.Over the centuries, Virginia has executed more prisoners than any other U.S. state. Both bills propose beginning the sale of marijuana in the state in 2024 and overseeing the sales with a new state agency.If enacted, the move would make Virginia the first Southern state to legalize marijuana.Both the marijuana and the death penalty changes would be significant developments in Virginia, a longtime conservative state. Virginia reliably voted to send Republicans to the White House from 1968 to 2004, but that trend began shifting in recent years. Since the 2008 election of Barack Obama, the state has been electing Democrats for president.In recent years, Virginia has carried out fewer executions. The last one was in 2017 and only two men remain on the state’s death row.Federally, executions have also been trending downward. Частка каналу «Наш» зросла в 3,5 раза після відключення «каналів Медведчука»
Частка каналу «Наш» проросійського політика Євгена Мураєва зросла в 3,5 раза після відключення каналів «112 Україна», NewsOne та ZIK, які пов’язують з іншим проросійськими політиком Віктором Медведчуком, повідомляє «Детектор медіа».
«Якщо 2 лютого канал мав частку 0,47% за аудиторією «18+, Вся Україна», то 3 лютого вона сягнула до 1,72%. А у великих містах з населенням 50 тис.+ канал вийшов у лідери з часткою 2,65%, випередивши «Прямий» з часткою 2,13%. При цьому в середньому у січні «Наш» мав досить скромні показники і займав останні позиції в топі інформаційних мовників з часткою 0,38% за вибіркою «Вся Україна» та 0,52% за вибіркою 50 тис.+, аудиторія 18+», – пише видання.
Журналісти називають канал «Прямий», який пов’язують з колишнім президентом Петром Порошенком, «другим бенефіціаром відключення». Його частка зросла з 1,31% до 2,2% за аудиторією «18+, Вся Україна». У містах з населенням понад 50 тисяч: з 1,68% до 2,13%.
Показники інших інформаційних мовників також зросли. У перший день відключення 3 лютого у порівнянні з 2 лютим, за аудиторією «18+, Вся Україна» частка «24 каналу» зросла з 0,38% до 0,40%, «5 каналу» – з 0,76% до 0,83%, «Еспресо» з 0,87% до 0,90%. Єдиний канал з поміж умовно інформаційних, частка якого знизилась у перший день відключення «каналів Медведчука», – це «УНІАН»: 2 лютого він мав 0,42%, а 3 лютого 0,38% за згаданою аудиторією.
«Детектор медіа» зазначає, що показники інформаційного каналу «Україна 24» неможливо оцінити, адже дані по ньому в панелі закриті.
2 лютого президент України Володимир Зеленський ввів у дію рішення Ради національної безпеки й оборони про запровадження санкцій проти народного депутата з фракції «Опозиційна платформа – За життя» й соратника проросійського політика Віктора Медведчука Тараса Козака та восьми юридичних осіб. Санкції передбачають блокування телеканалів «112 Україна», NewsOne та ZiK.
Телеканали у своїй заяві розкритикували санкції та назвали рішення влади «політичною розправою над невгодними ЗМІ».
Верховний суд отримав позов із вимогою скасувати санкції проти каналів Козака.

Україна отримала підтвердження щодо постачання 12 млн доз вакцин від COVID-19 – Степанов
Україна отримала підтвердження щодо постачання 12 млн доз вакцин проти коронавірусної інфекції, постачання почнеться з лютого 2021-го. Про це заявив міністр охорони здоров’я Максим Степанов під час наради з президентом України Володимиром Зеленським, повідомила пресслужба Офісу президента.
Очільник МОЗ зазначив, що досягнуті домовленості про постачання вакцин, розроблених за участю компаній AstraZeneca (Велика Британія та Оксфордський університет) та Novavax (США), які виробляються за ліцензійними угодами на потужностях Serum Institute (Індія). Отримане підтвердження реалізовуватиметься через контракт між Serum Institute та Crown Agents, розповіли в Офісі президента.
Своєю чергою Зеленський заявив, що 12 мільйонів доз – це хороший сигнал від партнерів.
«Чим раніше ми отримаємо вакцини, тим швидше подолаємо пандемію в Україні. Знаю, що Кабінет міністрів ретельно працює над розробкою сайту, який допоможе легко та зручно реєструватися українцям на вакцинацію. Як і кожен українець, чекаю на початок процесу вакцинації. 12 мільйонів доз – це хороший сигнал від наших партнерів, і цього буде достатньо, аби забезпечити вакцинування впродовж перших місяців після початку поставок», – сказав глава держави.
Міністерство охорони здоров’я України планує завершити кампанію з вакцинації від коронавірусної хвороби COVID-19 до кінця цього року.
5 лютого заступник міністра охорони здоров’я, головний державний санітарний лікар Віктор Ляшко повідомив, що компанія Pfizer незабаром надішле в Україну документ для реєстрації своєї вакцини від COVID-19.
29 січня Ляшко заявляв, що вакцинація від COVID-19 почнеться в Україні «в районі 15 лютого». Водночас Ляшко переконаний, що масова вакцинація можлива в Україні через чотири місяці. За його словами, у лютому Україна отримає 117 тисяч доз вакцини Pfizer-BioNTech у межах співпраці з COVAX.

Donald Trump has resigned from the Screen Actors Guild after the union threatened to expel him for his role in the Capitol riot in January.In a letter dated Thursday and addressed to SAG-AFTRA president Gabrielle Carteris, Trump said he was resigning from the union that he had been a member of since 1989. “I no longer wish to be associated with your union,” wrote Trump in a letter shared by the actors guild. “As such, this letter is to inform you of my immediate resignation from SAG-AFTRA. You have done nothing for me.” The guild responded with a short statement: “Thank you.” Last month, the SAG-AFTRA board voted that there was probable cause that Trump violated its guidelines for membership by his role in the Jan. 6 Capitol siege. US Senate Narrowly Approves Biden Budget Blueprint
President Joe Biden’s drive to enact a $1.9 trillion coronavirus aid bill gained momentum early on Friday as the U.S. Senate narrowly approved a budget blueprint allowing Democrats to push the legislation through Congress in coming weeks with or without Republican support.
At the end of approximately 15 hours of debate and back-to-back votes on dozens of amendments, the Senate found itself in a 50-50 partisan deadlock over passage of the budget plan. That deadlock was broken by Vice President Kamala Harris, whose “yes” vote provided the win for Democrats.
Shortly before the final vote, Democrats flexed their muscle by offering an amendment reversing some earlier votes regarding the future of the Keystone XL pipeline and coronavirus aid to immigrants living in the United States illegally.
With Harris presiding, she broke a 50-50 tie to win this amendment for her fellow Democrats.
It marked the first time Harris, in her role as president of the Senate, cast a tie-breaking vote after being sworn in as Biden’s vice president on Jan. 20.

Суд в окупованому Армянську вивчив два томи «справи Джемілєва» – адвокат
Підконтрольний Росії Армянський міський суд на засіданні 5 лютого дослідив два томи справи щодо національного лідера кримськотатарського народу Мустафи Джемілєва, якого в окупованому Криму судять заочно. Про це повідомляє кореспондент проєкту Радіо Свобода Крим.Реалії з посиланням на адвоката Миколи Полозова.
За його інформацією, в суді прокурор представляв низку письмових доказів, представлених в першому і другому томах кримінальної справи.
Зокрема, було досліджено протокол огляду місця події в районі Армянська на прикордонному пункті пропуску, який, за версією російського слідства, Джемілєв нібито незаконно перетинав.

Як зазначив адвокат, «на представленої в матеріалах справи фототаблиці немає жодних розпізнавальних знаків, за якими можна зрозуміти, що в цьому місці проходить державний кордон. Сам пункт пропуску на той момент теж не був обладнаний необхідними інформаційними вивісками».
Після завершення дослідження документів, суд оголосив про завершення засідання. Наступне судове засідання по даній справі призначено на 11 лютого.
4 лютого продовжилося судове засідання у справі національного лідера кримськотатарського народу Мустафи Джемілєва, якого заочно судять в анексованому Криму.

Управління Слідкому Росії в Криму 13 квітня висунуло Мустафі Джемілєву звинувачення за трьома статтями російського Кримінального кодексу: «перетин держкордону Росії іноземним громадянином, в’їзд якому в Росію не дозволений, вчинений групою осіб за попередньою змовою (частина 3 статті 322 КК Росії); недбале зберігання вогнепальної зброї, що створило умови для її використання іншою особою, якщо це спричинило тяжкі наслідки (статті 224 КК Росії); незаконне придбання і зберігання боєприпасів (частина 1 статті 222 КК Росії)».
За словами адвоката Миколи Полозова, проти Джемілєва використовують матеріали української справи його сина Хайсера.
Мустафа Джемілєв повідомив, що має намір «довести абсурдність звинувачень російської сторони» в Європейському суді з прав людини у тих кримінальних справах, які порушені проти нього в анексованому Криму.

Прикордонники не пропустили до України російську акторку, яка незаконно в’їхала до Криму
До України не впустили російську акторку, яка, за даними Державної прикордонної служби, незаконно відвідувала окупований Крим.
За повідомленням відомства, прикордонники повідомили акторці про заборону в’їзду в київському аеропорті «Бориспіль».
Росіянка прилетіла до України 4 лютого рейсом зі Стамбулу. Під час заходів прикордонного контролю військовослужбовці Окремого контрольно-пропускного пункту «Київ» встановили, що громадянка Росії минулого року незконно перебувала в Криму».
«На півострів вона потрапила з порушенням встановлено порядку в’їзду та виїзду. За наявною інформацією, вона брала участь у зйомках серіалу «Непотопляемая», в якому виконувала головну роль», – йдеться в повідомленні.

Минулої доби бойовики стріляли чотири рази, один український військовий поранений – штаб
Незаконні збройні формування чотири рази порушували режим припинення вогню на Донбасі за добу 4 лютого, повідомляє штаб Операції Об’єднаних сил.
Один із обстрілів із застосуванням 82-міліметрового міномета та стрілецької зброї зафіксували поблизу Південного. Внаслідок цього один український військовий отримав поранення. Зараз він у лікарні, зазначають у штабі.
«У районі населеного пункту Кримське було виявлено факт інженерного обладнання позицій противника у бік наших підрозділів. В районі відповідальності оперативно-тактичного угруповання «Схід», поблизу Водяного, що на Приазов’ї, російсько-окупаційні війська здійснили кілька пострілів зі станкового протитанкового гранатомета. А неподалік населеного пункту Павлопіль окупанти відкривали вогонь з ручного протитанкового гранатомета та стрілецької зброї», – йдеться в зведенні.
Крім того, російські гібридні сили порушили режим тиші на початку доби 5 лютого в районі Новомихайлівки. Внаслідок цього ніхто не постраждав, додають у штабі
Незаконне збройне угруповання «ДНР» 4 лютого звинуватило Збройні сили України в обстрілі окупованої ним території. Аналогічне угруповання «ЛНР» наразі не робило таких заяв.

Збройний конфлікт на Донбасі триває від 2014 року після російської окупації Криму. Україна і Захід звинувачують Росію у збройній підтримці бойовиків. Кремль відкидає ці звинувачення і заявляє, що на Донбасі можуть перебувати хіба що російські «добровольці».
За даними ООН, від квітня 2014-го до 31 липня 2020 року внаслідок збройного конфлікту на Донбасі загинули від 13 100 до 13 300 людей.

President Joe Biden promised Thursday that the United States would sharply increase its engagement around the world during his White House tenure, ending what he contended was the “past few years of neglect and abuse” of foreign relations by former President Donald Trump.“America is back,” Biden declared at the State Department in his first major foreign policy address as president. “America cannot afford to be absent on the world stage. Правоохоронці затримали відповідального за протипожежну безпеку Обласної інфекційної клінічної лікарні у Запоріжжі. Про це повідомила пресслужба Офісу генпрокурора.
«Наразі службову особу, відповідальну за техногенний та протипожежний стан Обласної інфекційної клінічної лікарні, затримано в порядку статті 208 КПК України», – йдеться в повідомленні.
В ОГП додали, що в ході досудового розслідування встановлені факти порушень вимог законодавства щодо пожежної безпеки.
«Слідство відпрацьовує декілька версій, зокрема використання медичного обладнання без наявності відповідних дозволів, з порушенням встановлених правил, що призвело до витоку кисню через систему штучної вентиляції легень з подальшим його критичним накопиченням у приміщенні палати та вибухом з виникненням пожежі», – розповіли в Офісі генпрокурора.
Внаслідок пожежі в реанімаційному боксі COVID-відділення Запорізької інфекційної лікарні загинуло троє пацієнток та анестезіолог. Вони отруїлися чадним газом. Жінкам було 91, 76 та 64 роки, лікарю – 26.
У рамках розслідування, початого за статтею про порушення встановлених законодавством вимог пожежної безпеки, що спричинило загибель людей, допитані п’ятеро людей.
«Повідомлення про загоряння надійшло напередодні о 23:29. В осередку небезпеки перебували 12 людей. Вісім осіб врятовані, двоє з них – ще один анестезіолог та медбрат – постраждали внаслідок пожежі. Потерпілі з опіками та отруєнням продуктами горіння доставлені до лікарні», – йдеться в повідомленні.
У Запорізькій ОДА раніше повідомили, що найближчим часом планують перевірити всі лікарні області, що приймають хворих на COVID-19, на предмет пожежної безпеки.

У Мін’юсті збираються подавати апеляцію через скасування правопису
Міністерство юстиції України подасть до Шостого апеляційного адміністративного суду апеляцію через скасування нового правопису Окружним адміністративним судом Києва. Про це в Мін’юсті повідомили у відповідь на запит Радіо Свобода.
«У межах строкiв передбачених статтею 295 цього Кодексу (Кодексу адміністративного судочинства – ред.) уповноваженою особою, якою забезпечується самопредставництво iнтересiв Кабiнету мiнiстрiв України в судах, буде подано до Шостого апеляцiйного адміністративного суду апеляцiйну скарrу на рiшення Окружного адмiнiстративного суду мiста Києва вiд 28.01.2021 у справi № 640/9824/19», – розповіли в міністерстві.
У Мін’юсті зазначили, що, відповідно до законодавства, апеляцiйна скарга на рішення суду подається протягом 30 днiв з дня його проголошення.
28 січня Окружний адміністративний суд Києва повідомив, що своїм рішенням визнав протиправною та нечинною постанову Кабінету міністрів України про новий український правопис. У суді зазначили, що уряд «діяв поза межами своєї компетенції та із порушенням законодавства».
Провадження відкрили в червні 2019 року, позивачами у справі виступили ГО «Правова держава» та жителька міста Херсон, яка діяла в інтересах своєї неповнолітньої доньки. Відповідачем був Кабінет міністрів України, третя особа в справі – Міністерство освіти і науки України.
Справа розглядалася за правилами загального позовного провадження, суд провів 8 судових засідань.
22 травня 2019 року Кабінет міністрів України схвалив нову редакцію українського правопису. Документ підготувала спеціально створена Українська національна комісія з питань правопису, до якої увійшли вчені-мовознавці Національної академії наук та національних університетів з різних регіонів України. Новий правопис почав діяти 3 червня того ж року.

Biden Calls Out ‘Political Extremism’ at Prayer Breakfast
President Joe Biden on Thursday called for a confrontation of the “political extremism” that inspired the U.S. Capitol riot and appealed for collective strength during such turbulent times in remarks at the National Prayer Breakfast, a Washington tradition that asks political combatants to set aside their differences for one morning.
The breakfast has sparked controversy in the past, particularly when President Donald Trump used last year’s installment to slam his political opponents and question their faith. Some liberals have viewed the event warily because of the conservative faith-based group that is behind it.
Still, Biden campaigned for the White House as someone who could unify Americans, and the breakfast gave the nation’s second Catholic president a chance to talk about his vision of faith as a force for good. Sen. Chris Coons, D-Del., said the event is “an inclusive and positive” one that “recognizes the teachings of Jesus but is not limited to Christianity.”
The breakfast is moving forward at a time when the nation’s capital is facing a series of historic crises. Biden is struggling to win significant support from congressional Republicans for a coronavirus response package, raising the likelihood that he will rely only on Democrats to pass the legislation.
Many in Washington are still navigating the aftermath of the deadly insurrection at the U.S. Capitol last month, which Biden alluded to in his remarks Thursday, referencing the “political extremism” that propelled the siege. Trump faces an unprecedented second impeachment trial in the Senate next week over his role in inciting the riot.
“For so many in our nation, this is a dark, dark time,” Biden told those watching the event. “So where do we turn? Faith.”
Biden’s message on Thursday marked his latest call to return Washington to more traditional footing after four years of Trump’s aggressive style. During the 2020 breakfast, Trump singled out Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Republican Sen. Mitt Romney of Utah, who had voted to convict the president during his first impeachment trial. Trump even held up a newspaper with a headline reading “ACQUITTED” over his own picture.
Every president has attended the breakfast since Dwight D. Eisenhower made his first appearance in 1953. The event went entirely virtual this year because of the coronavirus pandemic, with Biden and all other speakers appearing via taped remarks. Four living former presidents sent messages to the breakfast, with three speaking on tape while Coons read a message from former President Jimmy Carter — making Trump’s absence conspicuous.
South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott, a GOP co-chair of this year’s breakfast, pointed to regular faith-based gatherings on Capitol Hill that draw senators from both ends of the ideological spectrum as a model for the event. “We don’t see eye to eye philosophically, politically, but we do embrace each other as brothers of faith,” Scott, who also offered virtual remarks at the breakfast, said in an interview.
The breakfast has drawn pushback from gay and civil rights activists since President Barack Obama’s administration, with much of the opposition focused on the Fellowship Foundation, the conservative faith-based organization that has long supported the event. Religious liberals mounted a protest outside Trump’s first appearance in 2017, criticizing his limits on refugee admissions to the U.S., and a Russian gun rights activist convicted of acting as an unregistered foreign agent attended the breakfast twice during his administration.
Norman Solomon, co-founder and national director of the progressive activist group RootsAction, warned Biden not to “reach across any aisle to bigotry.”
“We don’t need any unity with bigotry,” Solomon said. “I fear a subtext of this engagement is, ‘Can’t we all get along.’ But that’s not appropriate in this case given the well-known right-wing and anti-gay background of the event’s sponsors.”
Solomon said Democratic presidents have continued a tradition of attending an event where their Republican counterparts often felt more comfortable because they feared being labeled as “anti-religious or nonreligious.” He said that Biden, a devout Catholic who attends Mass every week, could better send a unifying message by skipping the event and instead attending one that is truly bipartisan.
“God knows there are many religious leaders and gatherings that are devout and affirm human equality,” he said. “This isn’t one of them.”
Rachel Laser, president and CEO of Americans United for Separation of Church and State, agreed that “there are far better ways” than the breakfast for Biden to connect with people on the basis of shared spiritual beliefs.
“We would love to work with the administration to figure out a way to change the sponsorship of an event like this and to make it a place for Americans of all different religious beliefs,” Laser said.
Yet Democratic leaders, aware of Biden’s devout Catholic faith and calls for healing, have largely refrained from public comment on the event this year. Pelosi, D-Calif., taped her own message to the event on Thursday morning.
Both Laser and Guthrie Graves-Fitzsimmons, a fellow in the faith initiative at the liberal Center for American Progress think tank, pointed to the Christian symbolism seen during last month’s Capitol riot as an opening for Biden to offer pluralistic, open language about faith going forward.
“I hope President Biden recognizes we’re in a new moment,” Graves-Fitzsimmons said, “and that the Christian nationalism threat is a threat to both the sacred religious pluralism of the U.S. and to Christianity.”

«Ми змушені відмовитися від звичного сценарію проведення конкурсу і розглядаємо три інші потенційні варіанти розвитку подій», – йдеться у повідомленні на сайті пісенного конкурсу.
Організатори обіцяють, що визначаться з форматом проведення цьогорічного конкурсу в найближчі тижні, і наголошують, що пріоритетними при виборі формату будуть безпека і здоров’я учасників і глядачів.
Серед можливих варіантів, які розглядають у Роттердамі, – проведення онлайн-конкурсу серед артистів чи їхні офлайн-виступи без глядачів безпосередньо в Нідерландах із дотриманням соціальної дистанції й усіх запобіжних заходів.
При цьому організатори наголосили, що не розглядають варіант скасування конкурсу. За їхніми словами, «Євробачення-2021» відбудеться у травні цього року.
Планований на 2020 рік конкурс через коронавірусну пандемію перенесли на 2021-ий. Але, як вирішив організатор конкурсу, Європейський союз телерадіомовлення, країни-учасниці муситимуть подати нові пісні, хоча учасники можуть лишитися ті самі.

У Львові виписали з лікарні немовля, народжене хворою на COVID-19 матір’ю
У Львові 4 лютого лікарі виписали зі шпиталю немовля, яке передчасно народилося під час захворювання матері на COVID-19. Це шоста дитина у родині священника Петра Терлецького і його дружини Катерини.
Катерина Терлецька 14 листопада відчула симптоми хвороби. Спершу лікувалася у половому будинку у Львові. 6 грудня жінці стало гірше і її на 28 місяці вагітності перевезли у лікарню швидкої допомоги, підключили до апарту штучної вентиляції легень.
У Терлецької було понад 95% уражених легень. Оскільки мамі і плоду бракувало кисню, лікарі провели кесарський розтин і 6 грудня народилася Даринка вагою 1230 грамів. На народження дитини, за планом, очікували 14-20 лютого.
Дівчинку перевезли у відділення інтенсивної терапії новонароджених дітей Львівської обласної клінічної лікарні. У цей час її мати перебувала у медикаментозному сні. 19 грудня вона вже самостійно дихала, а 5 січня повернулася додому до п’ятьох дітей. Шоста дитина, яку назвали Дариною, до сьогодні лишалася в лікарні.

«Після виписки ми приїхали до Даринки у лікарню. Таких діток не бачила. Голівка поміщалася у долоньку, була дуже малесенька. П’яту дитину я народила вагою 4 700 (грамів – ред.), ця була для мене, немов лялечка. Я бачила, як персонал ставиться до дітей, і це вселяло спокій. Потім, коли я вже могла сама приїжджати, то тут щодня була. Дуже спокійна дитина, не плаче, спить і роздивляється. Такі малесенькі пальчики, як сірнички», – говорить Терлецька.
Багатодітна мати розповідає, що після виписки відчувала задишку. Зараз аналізи показують поліпшення стану, вона почувається краще і згодом планує повторне КТ легень.
У новонародженої дитини було виявлено COVID-19. Це поодинокі випадки, кажуть лікарі, коли при кесарському розтині передається вірус. Дитину виписали з вагою 2 800, вона самостійно дихає, перебуває ще у стадії дозрівання. На свій вік немовля, яке має 36 тижнів, цілком здорове, може перебувати під наглядом родини і опікою медиків.
«Дитина прогресує у вазі, має добрі реакції. Потребує, звісно, специфічного спостереження вузьких спеціалістів, але це стосується всіх передчасно народжених дітей, які народилися з проблемами доношені. Це один із унікальних випадків в Україні. Глибока незрілість і такі немовлята потребують серйозних втручать, лікування, опіки. А ще був COVID-19 і всі зусилля помножилися в рази. Батьки пройшли складний шлях і мають знання, як за дитиною доглядати у терміні 36 тижнів», – каже завідувачка відділення інтенсивної терапії новонароджених дітей Львівської обласної клінічної лікарні Зоряна Салабай.
За історією одужання Катерини Терлецької і народження її шостої дитини вболівало чимало людей, які підтримали цю сім’ю.
За останню добу у Львівській області виявили 308 нових хворих на коронавірусну хворобу.
За весь час пандемії в Україні виявили 1 232 246 випадків COVID-19, одужали 1 055 406, летальних випадків – 23 229.

Some Lawmakers, Experts Eye 14th Amendment to Bar Trump from Future Office
With the odds seemingly in favor of former President Donald Trump prevailing in his impeachment trial, a debate is brewing among legal scholars and some members of Congress over whether a once-forgotten provision of the U.S. Constitution can be used to bar the former president from holding federal office ever again. The provision is part of the Constitution’s 14th Amendment. Ratified in 1868, the amendment is best known for expanding the civil rights of American citizens and guaranteeing “equal protection” under the law. Its little known but hotly debated Section Three bars anyone who has “engaged in insurrection or rebellion” against the United States or who has given “aid and comfort” to its enemies from holding office. Trump faces a single charge of “incitement of insurrection” for his alleged role in instigating his supporters to storm the U.S. Capitol on January 6 to prevent the congressional certification of President Joe Biden’s election victory over Trump. With 45 Republican senators challenging the legality of trying a former president, the chances that the Senate will convict and disqualify Trump from office remain slim. That will potentially leave Democrats with one untested constitutional tool for disqualifying a former president: the 14th Amendment. Section Three of the amendment gives Congress the power to enforce its provisions by “appropriate legislation.” This has led some legal scholars to argue that the Democratic-controlled Congress can pass a law by simple majority to bar Trump from holding office in the future. “Congress can immediately pass a law declaring that any person who has ever sworn to defend the Constitution — from Mr. Trump to others — and who incited, directed, or participated in the January 6 assault ‘engaged in insurrection or rebellion’ and is therefore constitutionally disqualified from holding office in the future,” Deepak Gupta, a constitutional law expert, and Brian Beutler, editor-in-chief of Crooked Media, wrote in an op-ed in the New York Times last month. Sen. Tim Kaine, a Virginia Democrat and the Democratic vice-presidential candidate in 2016, is among a handful of lawmakers proposing to use the 14th Amendment to prevent Trump from ever seeking federal office again. Kaine contends that Republicans would be more inclined to support invoking the 14th Amendment than convicting Trump of high crimes and misdemeanors.Sen. Some scholars argue that it is up to the courts, not Congress, to make the determination. “Section Three does not identify any mechanisms for determining whether an official has actually engaged in insurrectionist activities that would trigger the disqualification, and as a consequence it has not been used very much and it is not even clear what kind of mechanism would be constitutional,” said Keith Whittington, a Princeton University professor of politics. What is more, Whittington warned, allowing a simple majority of Congress to impose a lifetime ban on a former president could open a Pandora’s box. Once in control, Republicans could return the favor by voting to disqualify Democrats for expressing views on protests that turned into riots. “There is a great deal of obvious political risk in having the Congress just make such determinations by majority vote and potentially disqualifying from office members of the minority party with little evidence and through an entirely partisan political process,” Whittington said via email. All that changed after January 6 when a mob of Trump supporters breached and vandalized the U.S. Capitol — leaving five people including a police officer dead and prompting the House of Representatives to impeach Trump for “incitement of insurrection.” In calling for Trump’s disqualification from office, the article of impeachment filed against him references Section Three of the 14th Amendment. However, the House Democratic prosecutors barely mention it in their pre-trial brief submitted to the Senate on Tuesday. That could mean House Democrats are keeping it as an option that they could use down the road, Magliocca said, adding that members of Congress are working on legislation related to the provision. If Congressional Democrats decide to invoke the 14th amendment in order to disqualify Trump, they could do two things, according to Magliocca. First, pass legislation establishing an enforcement mechanism for Section Three. This could be similar to the first Ku Klux Klan Act of 1870 that created a process for removing former Confederate officials from public office, Magliocca said. Second, pass a non-binding resolution finding Trump ineligible to hold office again and urging the courts to accept their verdict. “The former president would have every right to challenge any determination that he’s ineligible in court and pursue all his legal remedies all the way up to the Supreme Court,” Magliocca said.
